At first Kreis was asked how much not having Morales on the field hurt the team, to which he replied, "I think for certain it was. I just didn't feel like we had any player that was in advanced positions helping us out of tight spots. He usually does that for us."
One year ago today, coach Jason Kreis began his dramatic makeover of Real Salt Lake by pulling the trigger on a blockbuster trade that illustrated that - for good or ill - the new-look Major League Soccer team was going to be assembled according to his grand vision.
So . . . how has it all worked out, nine trades and 12 months later?
Dallas has hit the panic button. Last week’s 5-1 beating at the hands of LA Galaxy led to the firing of coach Steve Morrow. Not too sure if I agree with that move, but someone in the front office thinks it’s the right direction to go. But a closer look shows that Dallas is only three points off the top in the West. Yes, they haven’t managed a win in four games, but surely firing your coach after struggling like that? A bit harsh. Morrow’s replacement is assistant coach Marco Ferruzzi who will serve on an interim basis. Lucky for Dallas, Real Salt Lake is coming to town. And they’ve laid an egg on the road so far this season, going 0-for-4 thus far. Salt Lake couldn’t muster much against the Rapids last weekend, and I think that Dallas will snap out of their funk. Kyle Beckerman believes it's way too early to push the panic button.
"I think we've made big strides at home, and now it's time to take steps to mature on the road. I think it will come. We need to start getting some ties and then see if we can start sneaking some wins away," he said.
Ian Joy trained with the team at full strength and looks like he'll be an option for this weekend. On a side note, at the very beginning of practice today as the team was jogging around the field, Joy stopped all his teammates for about 60 seconds to say something...
Defender Ian Joy returned to the practice field for Real Salt Lake this week, thrilled to finally be off the stationary rehab bicycle and poised to return to the lineup at FC Dallas on Saturday.
"We kind of came out slow, but we met at halftime, talked some things over, worked some things out and we came out with a different attitude like we were going to be state champs," said Garner. "And we took it to 'em."
